Spiritual awakening is a process. Maybe that's the point of the whole process. We cultivate our awakened spirit and know that we are finally free to live in peace, integrity and dignity.

Living Purely, Chapter 3, "The Creative Action of the Spirit"

When we used drugs, our spirit slowly eroded as our illness progressed. We undermined our beliefs and mocked anyone who got in the way of our self-centered plans. The journey from despair to spiritual awakening is a long and adventurous path for each of us.

A pink cloud may protect us from the jagged edges of life on its terms for a while, but reality comes sooner or later. Eventually, we will go through the death of someone close to us or maybe go through a painful divorce after years of being clean. Each of us deals with loss in a different way. Our initial reaction may be to avoid our feelings, seeking solace in food or sex or toys. Over time, we learn to rely on a power greater than ourselves and our supportive circle to cope with unbearable emotions. When we let go and surrender to the process, our spirit is now ready to awaken.

Serenity teaches us to let things unfold naturally and to let go of the illusion of control. We invest less in outcomes and focus instead on aligning our will with the greater good. We open our minds to possibilities and pay attention to both opportunities and closed doors. We live in the moment and enjoy the freedom that comes with peace.

I will let go of my expectations and enjoy the purity of the moment. I will allow myself to be present in the unfolding of my spiritual journey and enjoy the peace of living only for today.
