We see them come to their first meeting defeated and broken. It is obvious that they are suffering and that they want help. They take the white key ring and return to their seats with difficulty.
At some point we see them again and they look a little better. They have found a supporter and attend rallies every day. They still can't look us in the eye, but it shows on their face when they identify with our sharing. We see a faint hope in their eyes and they smile awkwardly when we urge them to keep coming.
A few months later, their posture has improved. They can now look us in the eye. They work the Steps with the person who supports them and the result is healing. We hear them share at gatherings. At the end of the group we arrange the chairs together.
A few years later, they share a service lab. They are remarkable people, with a lot of humor. When they see us, they smile, hug us and tell us that they could never have made it without us. And they believe us when we answer: "neither do we without you".
