What a joy to be a part of something that not only saves people's lives, but makes them worth living.<\/strong><\/p>\n Living Purely, Chapter 5: \u201cBrotherhood\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Desperation brought us together, so being alive and clean might at first seem like a good enough reason to be happy. But wait, there's more! Even in the first few days we are clean, we may have some suspicion that we are part of something special. We may wonder, "Am I being indoctrinated into some sect?", but with no distinct leader and no doctrine to follow, we can rule that out. We decide to keep coming. We'll be watching what these weirdos are up to.<\/p>\n Well, we're clean! And now what; We find this passage in the Main Text. "When the drugs go away and the addict works the program, wonderful things happen." I like the way this sounds! We start to piece together what it means to "work the program" and find some practical advice in "What can I do?" \u2013 Chapter five of the step guide. We go to many gatherings without using in between - even on vacation! We find a team, a supporter and a service, and we find ourselves surrounded by people who are very happy with our progress. They want nothing from us, only good things for us. They offer us words of encouragement, lessons from their own lives, and epic stories of madness with other members. They point to our growth and say they are happy, grateful, even honored to be a part of our miracle. We smile and nod and our eyes start to water. All we can think is: This NA thing\u2026 is a trip.<\/p>\n Our lives are transformed as we become both helpers and helpers. Now we are those people with the stories and the kindness for the new and we are moved to be a part of their wonder. Our mentors also continue to evolve and allow us to help them. We have found a purpose and a framework for living.
