{"id":11723,"date":"2023-06-13T00:01:47","date_gmt":"2023-06-12T21:01:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.na-greece.gr\/?post_type=spad&#038;p=11723"},"modified":"2023-06-09T21:46:23","modified_gmt":"2023-06-09T18:46:23","slug":"13-iouniou-i-tapeinotita-%c2%b5as-kanei-anoichtous-stin-ypostiriksi","status":"publish","type":"spad","link":"https:\/\/www.na-greece.gr\/en\/spad\/13-iouniou-i-tapeinotita-%c2%b5as-kanei-anoichtous-stin-ypostiriksi\/","title":{"rendered":"JUNE 13 | Humility makes us open to support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>For most of us it is a huge struggle to stop relying on our own thinking and start asking for help, but when we do, we have begun to apply the principle of humility found in the Second Step.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Step Guide Guidelines, Step Two. &quot;spiritual principles&quot;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Before we recovered, pride, selfishness, and denial were essential to our survival. They allowed us to feign a strong sense of independence. These strong character flaws can be real obstacles to our recovery. Left unchecked, they can lead to what some have called \u201cSuperhero Syndrome\u201d \u2013 the belief that we can and do everything on our own. This can be a very lonely place, cut off from the god of our understanding and from other recovering addicts. It can be very easy for us to urge our friends and supporters to reach out to others for help, only to find ourselves trapped in our own self-centered thinking.<\/p>\n<p>In Step Two, we begin to build a belief system and understand that the two of us together are a greater force than either of us individually in our active addiction, many of us felt that asking for help was a form of weakness. But we learn to be receptive to asking for support and find strength in this tradition. For many of us, the supportive relationship is where we learn to trust someone and turn to when we are in need.<\/p>\n<p>When we realize that we&#039;re not giving up our independence or problem-solving abilities simply by asking others to be there for us, something kicks into action. Whether it&#039;s a shoulder to cry on, experiencing a commitment, or learning how to do our own laundry \u2013 we all need a little help sometimes. One drug addict shared, \u201cAs I practice humility and become receptive to the support of others, my relationships become more and more authentic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When we can let go of the idea that &quot;our way is the only way,&quot; then we can find relief in knowing that we are not alone in this process.
