Brief history

Narcotics Anonymous is a global organization with a multilingual and multicultural character.
Narcotics Anonymous started in the US in 1953.
It is one of the oldest and largest organizations of its type in the world. After the first SA gathering in Los Angeles, the brotherhood grew slowly and in the early 70's spread to other major cities in North America and Australia.
Since the publication of Narcotics Anonymous' seminal text of the same name in 1982, the growth of the fraternity has been phenomenal. New teams were created in Brazil, Colombia, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand and England.
By the end of the year, 1200 groups had been established in 11 countries. Three years later the number of SA teams worldwide had tripled.
In Greece the first NA group started in 1987 in Athens, with two gatherings a week. Today there are more than 40 groups and more than 110 gatherings are held per week, in Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, in other provincial cities and islands, as well as online. Gatherings are also held in English and Persian (Farsi).
Presentation groups are also held on a weekly basis in prisons and treatment centers in Athens and Thessaloniki.
Narcotics Anonymous has now expanded throughout Western Europe, North and South America, as well as Australia. New NA groups are constantly opening in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Central America and countries in Asia and Africa. More than 70,000 gatherings a week take place in 144 countries around the world
