March 29 / What we really want

"...God's will for us is made up of those very things that have value for us as well. God's will ... truly becomes our will."
Basic Text, p. 55

It is human nature to want to take without giving. We might go crazy with joy if they give us change of fifty euros, while we have given twenty euros. We tend to think that as long as no one knows, a little misrepresentation doesn't hurt. And yet, someone knows: us. And that changes everything.

The things we did in use, in recovery slowly begin to stop working. As we mature working the Twelve Steps, we begin to live by new values and principles. We start to feel uncomfortable when we take advantage of situations, while something similar in use would be considered great magic.

In the past we may have abused other people. Nevertheless, by improving our relationship with a Higher Power, we adopt new values. God's will begins to become more important to us than always getting what we want.

Acquiring new values, our life also changes. With the guidance of our Higher Power, the question for us now is to put these new values into practice in our lives. We tune into the will of a Higher Power for us and, in fact, God's will for us becomes what we really want.

Only for today

As my conscious contact with God improves, my values change. Today I will live according to God's will for me – that's what I really want.
