May 31 / Let's keep it simple

"We live one day at a time and we also live each moment. When we stop living in the here and now, our problems are magnified beyond measure."
Main Text, p. 115

Life often seems complicated and incomprehensible, especially to those of us who have avoided it for a long time. When we stopped using, many of us were faced with a world that left us confused or even terrified. Seeing life in all its facets at once is awe-inspiring. We end up thinking that we might not be able to make it and that there's no point in trying. These thoughts become gigantic and there comes a time when life seems so complicated to us that we become paralyzed.

The good thing is that we don't have to make them all at once. Tackling just one problem seems doable, so we tackle one issue at a time. We do the best we can with what we have now in front of us and continue in the same way by doing one thing at a time. We learn to stay clean just for today and approach our problems the same way. When we stay in the moment, life seems less scary. Only for now, while a breath lasts, we stay clean and learn to live.

Just for today

I'll keep it simple by living in the here and now. Today I will deal only with the problems of this day; those that are for tomorrow, I will leave for tomorrow.
