May 5 / In any dimension

"I was willing to go to any dimension to stay clean."
Basic Text, p. 132

Newcomers wonder at the phrase "in any dimension." "What do you mean 'in any dimension'?" If we remember the time of use and what we were willing to do for the pioma, we will understand what this means. Were we willing to make a whole trip to find something to drink? We usually were. So if it's as important to us to stay clean as it was to use, we'll do everything we can to find a way to get to a meeting.

In use, didn't we often do stupid things or take substances we didn't know just because someone suggested it to us? Then why is it often so difficult for us to accept guidance in recovery, especially when it will help us grow? When we used, every now and then we would say to our Higher Power, "Please, do something to get her off today!" So why is it so difficult for us to ask for God's help in recovery?

When we used, we were usually pretty open minded when it came to finding ways and means to secure our drugs. If we can apply "open mind" as a spiritual principle to our recovery, we probably won't have a hard time understanding what the NA program is saying. We often hear it said that our best ideas led us to the rooms of Narcotics Anonymous. If we are willing to go into any dimension, accept guidance and remain open-minded, we can stay clear.

Only for today

I am willing to go to any dimension to stay clean. I will be willing to accept guidance and keep an open mind as needed.
