May 9 / Write about it!

"We take a notebook, ask for guidance, pick up a pencil and start writing."

Main Text, p. 34

When we are confused or in pain, sometimes the supporter may suggest that we sit down and write about it. We may grumble the moment we get our hands on the notebook, but we know it will help us. When we write it all down on paper, we have the opportunity to see clearly what is on our mind. By writing, we can sort through the chaos and identify exactly what is causing us pain.

Written work is effective, especially when working the Steps. Many members keep a diary. For most of us thinking about the Steps, pondering their meaning and analyzing the effect they will have on our lives is not enough. Picking up the pen and starting to write helps us put the principles of recovery in order, in harmony with our mind and heart.

Although a simple process, writing benefits us in many ways, such as having more clarity in our thinking, unlocking things that are deeply hidden within us, and awakening our consciousness. Writing helps us become more honest with ourselves. We sit, try to calm down and listen to our hearts. When the mind is quiet, we get in touch with our truth and write it down on paper.

Only for today

One way I get in touch with my truth is through writing. I will take the pen and write.
